Method 12

I did it, eventually! Thanks to all of you who have launched and extended this program , so I can have a chance to go through the whole process of learning and benefit from this excellent program. I was interested in most of the exercises in the training. These exercises are related to each other to some extend. The way the 'creator' explains and guides me from setting up my own Blogs, adding my first Post to exploring Cloud Computing, RSS & Newsreaders, Photos & Images, Videos, Tagging & Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, Chat & IM, Wikis and Podcasts is really amazing, professional and informative. This shorter version of the popular 23 things program gives me a comfortable feeling that I can reach the goal in a shorter way, and how great and smarter I feel upon finishing this course! This program has assisted me in my Professional Development at work and in my daily use. The Certification after the online training is another stimulation to mark our achievement. I would definitely participate in the next program you offered in the future. I would like to say thanks again to all of you who brings Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 to us , who work in the library.

Method 11

Together with the development of computers and high speed internet, Podcasts are popular and have lots of applications and amusement. Podcast.com and Education Podcast Network are marvellous. Users can choose the podcasts by the topics they are interested in. It is easy, fast, convenient to download the podcasts from some websites. Those podcasts are very helpful and it is really interesting and helpful to listen and view them from your computer.
In terms of creating podcasts, our libraries do not create podcasts at the present time, however, with the potential use of podcasts, we will have them in our libraries soon.

Method 10

Wiki is doing a great job in collecting and organizing good blogs, useful websites as well as sharing information and saving time for other users. It is great in another way that the community of librarians have a playground to make use of their talents, learn from other librarians and at the same time help those who are not professional in searching on the internet. One more interesting thing is that once you create a log in account, you can add to or edit topics on the wiki. Create a log in account is easy and simple , all you need is an email address. I logged in to the "Library Development A Dozen Ways to Two Step Favorites " Wiki, left the URL to my favorite blog on the "Favorite Blogs " page and it is very interesting to do so.
A lot of applications within libraries might work well with a wiki. Librarians can post their workshops, their research , any news or events happening in their own libraries , etc.. Wiki is a good place where they can exchange valuable resources ad good links and all others can benefit from that.

Method 9 - Option 1

Chat/IM are very interesting and helpful to me. They went smoothly. It's not very difficult for me to chat on line with my friends as long as the internet connections both ways are on. I have used chat through Yahoo Messenger for quite a long time. To me, chat is a quick way to communicate and of great help in some aspects, especially when you commonly work with computers, so you can be right there to know if someone on line and you can keep contact with them quietly without disturbing other people or other members in the family, and it is really helpful for those with hearing problems who do not want to talk on the phones. Webcam is a good way to communicate with others , too, especially for those who live far from each other, so they can hear and see each other as they were right in front of you, which is really lots of fun. However, in order to use Webcam service, people need to have very strong computer and high quality service of internet. Chat/IM is really a good function in communicating in libraries. My library is currently offering chat, I tried this option and it turned out very sucessful.

Method 8

I heard about Facebook a couple of years ago and that millions of people around the world are
its fans, especially students. I couldn't understand how and why that website attracts such many followers. Until I tried it, I found what the answer was. It's easy to sign up and it takes me some time to figure it out most of the functions. And I log on to it whenever I have time just to enjoy reading from friends and sometimes to leave a comment and feel very glad that it works! To me, the social networking sites satisfy the needs of people's communication to keep track of what is going on with your friends , family and acquaintances, to share photos and information not with just one person at a time but a whole lot in a fastest way and much more... Though interested in what it brings to me, I still have privacy concerns about keeping my personal life separate from my professional life in the online environment. And even in my personal social life account, I am still not confident to share a lot of my personal things on line for everyone (I mean friends I know but not very close to me) , and according to what I read , even if I delete my things, they are still in the database on line. My College has use Facebook , unfortunately, my Library has not used Facebook yet , I hope some time in the future it will . However, it is using some other social networking tools such as Instant Message, RSS Feeds, Twitter.

Method 7

I have explored the DELICIOUS and found that it is really helpful in bookmarking a web page and in adding tags to organize the bookmarks. It saves us a lot of time in researching by using the similar links in the tags as well as in discovering and keeping the interested websites for later use.
This tool is not only an easy way to create bookmarks that can be accessed from anywhere but also has potential use by teachers, librarians and libraries especially in their workshops .

Method 6

This is the link of the video I added to my blog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs8C7w1i1Pw

This is the embeded code of the video I would like to place inside my blog.

"YouTube" is easy for me to use in looking for & watching the videos as well as in sharing the videos I like to my friends. I really enjoy working with "YouTube".

I chose this video because it mentions one of the problems that sometimes happens in the library in a funny way that makes you laugh.

Method 5 - Extra credit - Flickr vs Picasa

I explored Picasa and took a tour from Flickr. Picasa is part of Google and Flickr is part of Yahoo.
I like both Flickr and Picasa sites because they both give us an easy , organized, safe and quick way to keep your valuable digital photos. The " Take the tour" from Flickr and " Watch a video introduction" from Picasa are good guides for you to follow and understand the features they provide users.

Method 5

I have just finished posting an image from Flicker to my blog by using Blogger's photo upload tool. Hope that I did it right. Flicker is gorgeous and it was really interesting and easy to upload photo through Blogger.
Discussing about online photo sharing, on a personal level, I am comfortable to post and share my personal photos with my family and my close friends . It's really a convenient , quick, easy and cheap way for those who have access to the computers and are familiar with the use of computers to view the online photos, but to those who live in the countryside where there is no access to computers and are not used to living with computers , the traditional photos method is still an easier choice .
On a professional level, online photo sharing sites for libraries , to me, are of some potential uses : it's a fast, convenient and broad way to introduce your library to the students and other library users, to share, connect and bring library events to those who work in the library and to the publics and etc....

Method 4

Here are the links to my 3 feeds

1. http://library.hccs.edu/Libline/

2.http://www.lib.utexas.edu/utlol.rss

3.http://library.oxfordjournals.org/rss/

RSS seems new to me and it really took me a lot of time to find out how it works. I am still learning how to make use of RSS to keep up with some certain sites.
The most appealling thing to me about these feeds is that I can read recently published articles and news at one time.

Method 3

I have explored Google Docs & Zoho , used some of Google applications and am really interested in using these applications. Actually, i just shared some general publications with my friends . As far as privacy concerns, I haven't made use of all of the features. I am kind of fifty-fifty percent of being excited and at the same time being cautious about cloud computing.
In terms of library use, these tools are great benefits for use in libraries to research, to share and to communicate.

"Methods 1 and 2"

Web 2.0 contains a lot of new technologies that I have heard of but never tried all of them by myself. I'm feeling a little bit lost in the forest of new technologies. Web 2.0 really plays an important role in effective communication.
Library 2.0 with all of the tools from Web 2.0 will better help and serve the community.
To me, the terms mean the "second generation", the generation that brings you a lot of new and fast means of communications.
To libraries in general, the term means a new generation of library, which is more functional, more helpful and more inviting .

test post

I have created a blog. Hope it works !
